Most of Australia runs Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR), which lets a licensed worker notify and start work in another state under a deemed registration. Queensland does not participate in AMR. That means your interstate or New Zealand licence does not automatically carry across. You must apply through the Mutual Recognition process, and there are strict rules that catch people out.
QBCC can only issue a licence that is equivalent to the one you hold. If your licence carries a condition or restriction, the same condition is imposed on your Queensland licence. Where there is no equivalent QBCC class, a licence cannot be issued at all. Your interstate or New Zealand licence must also remain active until your Queensland licence is approved. If it lapses, is cancelled or is suspended first, your entitlement is lost.

No. Queensland does not participate in the AMR scheme. You must lodge a formal Mutual Recognition application with QBCC to have your interstate or New Zealand licence recognised.
