Get licensed to contract your trade.

Contract building work over $3,300, or any plumbing, drainage, gasfitting or fire work at any value, and you need the correct QBCC trade contractor licence. We get you the right class, first time, QBCC fees included.

When you need a trade contractor licence?

QBCC regulates more than 80 licence types. If you contract building work valued over $3,300 (including labour, materials and GST), you must hold the licence for that work. For plumbing, drainage, gasfitting and fire protection, a licence is required regardless of the job value, even at $0. A trade contractor licence is what lets you contract directly to the public and take on work in your own name.

The two things that stall trade applications are the technical qualification for your specific trade and the managerial course required for contractor and nominee supervisor licences. Choose the wrong class for your scope, or lodge without the right evidence, and you pay a non-refundable 50% fee for a refusal.

Commonly Asked Questions

When do I need a QBCC trade contractor licence?

If you contract building work valued over $3,300 in Queensland you must hold the correct licence. For plumbing, drainage, gasfitting and fire protection, a licence is required at any value, including $0.

Which licence class do I need?

It depends on the exact scope of your trade. QBCC has more than 80 licence types. We confirm the correct class in your consultation so you do not apply under the wrong one.

Do I need a managerial course?

Contractor and nominee supervisor licences require a QBCC-approved managerial course. We confirm whether you need it and where to complete it.

I have years of experience but no certificate. Can I still apply?

Experience alone is not enough; you need the prescribed technical qualification for your trade. RPL can convert your experience into that qualification through a registered training organisation. We coordinate it.

Can I contract directly to the public with this licence?

Yes. A trade contractor licence lets you contract directly to the public and take on work in your own name, within the scope of your class.

What happens if I contract without a licence?

It is unlicensed contracting, which carries penalties, insurance exposure and problems recovering payment. Getting the correct licence first protects your income.
